Staff Spotlight: Eden McCafferty

November 2, 2019

Eden holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. While completing her degree she was able to live and work in Brussels, Belgium; Washington, DC; and New York City. She is driven by exploring different urban environments and examining the ways in which people shape them. She is passionate about advancing community health through design and placemaking.

In her position as an Associate at MKM, Eden brings a range of skills in urban planning, historic renovation, and digital outreach. Outside of work, she likes to walk Fort Wayne’s many trails with her dog, see live music, and spend time on the farm.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in southern Arkansas and West Virginia – different in many ways but equally rich in natural beauty and history.

What interested you in pursuing a career in architecture?

Even as a kid, I can remember being taken by a particular space, whether it be the design itself or how that design encouraged people to move and act within the space. I later realized more of the impact design can have on culture, social equity, health and well-being. I am continuously drawn to architecture because of the presence and effect it has on every human experience.

What motivates you to come into work every day at MKM?

I am motivated each day by our collective mission to improve health and well-being in our community. I’m inspired by what I can learn by everyone’s strengths and expertise coming together.

Where do you look for inspiration?

I can always find fresh inspiration by talking to my grandparents or immersing myself in nature.

Where is your favorite place to travel?

My favorite place I’ve traveled so far has been Copenhagen. Candles in the windows, Tivoli Gardens, and everyone bikes!

How do you recharge during your free time?

I like to cook, watch movies, and play board games with my friends and loved ones in my off time.

Which projects are you most proud to have worked on?

I most feel the impact of project involvement when I am able to really connect with the clients. Understanding the story and important challenges to each individual help create the best results.

What is your favorite quote?

“Think globally, act locally.” – Paul McCartney

What was the last book your read?

The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan – it was an interesting take on our country’s food system and the history and culture surrounding it.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!

I spent 2 months this year living and working on a farm, tending sheep, goats, chickens, and cows full time. Seeing how independent and adventurous the baby animals were right in there first hours was fascinating!
