Parkview Kosciusko SurgeryONE delivers advanced orthopedic care in Warsaw, IN. with a new space designed for efficiency, comfort, and healing.
At MKM, our work has always been about more than buildings; it’s about the people who experience them and creating spaces that enhance access, equity, and inclusion through the built environment.
That mission comes through in our design for the renovation and expansion of the Arts United Center. The iconic Louis Kahn building predates ADA requirements, yet the space is now fully accessible with new ramps, elevators, universal restrooms, inclusive seating, and tactile wayfinding. The building is a true community, civic, and arts space that exemplifies the power of universal design to bring people together.
The AWS Foundation joined Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne, Inc. in celebrating the reopening of the Arts United Center, using the opportunity to introduce a new award, the Dart Pin, and recognize four people instrumental in ensuring this iconic Louis Kahn building was remodeled to Universal Design standards, without disrupting its architectural significance. Miriam Morgan (Arts United), Zachary Benedict (MKM architecture + design), Jonah Garoutte (MKM), and Ben McHugh (MKM) were honored as the inaugural recipients of this award. Named after the Godfather of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Justin Dart, the Dart Pin recognizes those who create lasting change in Northeast Indiana by championing advocacy, inclusion, and disability rights, ensuring that design serves everyone, regardless of ability.
We are honored to help carry forward the shared vision of a more inclusive community, one where great design opens doors, connects people, and makes the arts accessible to all.
