Interior Designer

May 2025 | Full-time, Exempt FLSA Status

Summary

MKM architecture + design (MKM) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Interior Designer to assist the firm in its mission to enhance health and well-being through design. This role is crucial for growing the firm’s approach to its defined target markets. Applicants should have a motivated, collaborative personality and are able to manage projects independently. This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and meet aggressive deadlines. Working alongside members of the firm’s leadership team, this position will have a wide range of tasks, from design conceptualization to project management, but the ultimate goal of the position is simple – help us grow our ability to serve clients through meaningful design.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Work alongside firm leadership to manage a variety of projects across the firm’s target markets
  • Develop design concepts and space plans based on client needs and preferences.
  • Create detailed drawings and specifications for comprehensive construction documentation.
    • Select materials, finishes, and furnishings that meet design and budget requirements.
    • Produce materials and FF&E (furniture, fixture, and equipment) specifications.
  • Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and other professionals to ensure project success.
  • Manage project timelines and budgets, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure work is progressing according to plan.
  • Prepare and present design concepts to clients.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest design trends, materials, and building codes within defined target markets.
  • Collaborate with other team members to develop innovative design solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and team members.
  • Review and approve shop drawings and submittals.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients and industry professionals.

Skills + Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or related field
  • 8+ years of experience with design firm (experience with healthcare sector preferred) with a strong
    understanding of design principles, space planning, and finish specifications
  • Registered Interior Designer with NCIDQ certification
  • Excellent space planning and conceptual design skills
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in ideation and interactive design discussions to format construction documents
  • Attention to accuracy and detail – being responsible for the overall quality of work produced
  • Persuasive communication skills for thoughtful client discussions and presentations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Deltek Ajera (preferred), Autodesk Revit, SketchUp (preferred) and Bluebeam while working within a PC environment
  • Strong work ethic and highly organized, with ability to communicate, multi-task, and work under deadline pressure
  • Self-motivated with an ability to independently solve problems and exercise sound judgement with minimal direction
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong work ethic, efficient, reliable and a committed team player
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of an interactive design team and apply constructive criticism from peers and clients

Director of Construction Administration

April 2025 | Full-time, Exempt FLSA Status

Summary

MKM architecture + design (MKM) is seeking a Director of Construction Administration to lead the firm in
overseeing all aspects of construction administration across multiple projects. This role ensures that projects
are executed in accordance with design intent, contractual obligations, quality standards, schedules, and
budgets. The Director serves as the primary liaison between the firm, clients, contractors, consultants, and
regulatory agencies, advocating for the firm’s interests and upholding the highest standards of project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the construction administration phase for large portfolio projects and/or clients fort the firm,
including:

    • Coordinate and lead construction progress meetings, document meeting outcomes, and communicate updates to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Review contractor work, authorize payments, and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
    • Review of submittals, Requests for Information (RFIs), change orders, and pay applications.
    • Receive/login and review track submittals, including coordination with technical consultants/engineers to ensure that the contract document requirements and obligations are met throughout construction.
    • Conduct on-site evaluations as construction progresses and author field reports in a timely manner.
    • Perform punch list site visits; author and issue final report(s), including an understanding of what constitutes substantial and final completion dates for projects.
    • Manage and monitor project budgets, schedules, and scopes; initiate proposed changes as necessary to keep projects on track.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and consultants during construction, facilitating effective communication and issue resolution.
  • Enforce quality control measures that ensure compliance with contracts, building, and code requirements while revising standardized details as needed.
  • Participate in the preparation and review of construction documents for quality, code compliance, and coordination and provide in-depth review of final Construction Documents (including specifications) and summarize suggested revisions for inclusion with addendum.
  • Develop and implement best practices for construction administration, including QA/QC processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support business development by fostering strong client relationships and contributing to repeat clientele.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree or professional licensure (e.g., RA, PE, CCM) preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in architecture or construction administration, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Deep knowledge of building systems, construction methods, codes, and regulations.
  • Proven experience managing large, complex construction projects.
  • Familiarity with AIA contract documents, International Building Code (IBC), NFPA, and Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) requirements for relevant projects.
  • Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD,).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Able to travel and/or work remotely (from construction sites or project locales).
  • Self-motivated, ability to work well independently and within a team to achieve objectives effectively.
  • Strong time management and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Attention to detail, organization skills, strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in a customer-focused, team-oriented environment.
