Outdoor classrooms and reading gardens tailored to all ages and the updated interiors of the New Carlisle-Olive Township Public Library allow the community to enjoy the library like never before. MKM was engaged to consider how the library could increase accessibility throughout the campus, renovate the existing facility to incorporate a new makerspace lounge, and develop a series of interactive pocket parks around the building for various functions. These included a refined entry plaza, reading garden for adults, and an interactive children’s outdoor learning lab.

MKM initially worked with the New Carlisle-Olive Township Public Library to complete a Facility Master Plan in 2018. The Master Plan that was developed aligned with the library’s mission to “be a heart of the community and enrich lives by providing lifelong learning, enjoyment, and a welcoming place to make connections.” The plan was quickly put into action and construction began on the library in early 2020. The renovation assists the library in remaining relevant for years to come by incentivizing social interaction and neighborhood engagement.
