2017 MKM Third Year Architecture Design Competition

News

Department of Architecture
Ball State University

For the 2017 spring semester, all third-year students in the Ball State University Department of Architecture undergraduate program participated in the fourth annual design competition sponsored by MKM architecture + design, Fort Wayne IN, http://www.mkmdesign.com. The 2017 ACSA/AISC Steel Competition for Museum Design was used as the basis for the six-week exploration; the museum, whose theme was open to student designers, was to be located on a site in Indianapolis, adjacent to Military Park and the Herron School of Art at IUPUI. Students worked individually or in teams of two.

Considered the capstone educational experience of the third-year undergraduate architecture program, the MKM Competition requires students across all third-year studio sections to apply their design knowledge and skills to the same project. Students had the option to design their competition submissions individually or in teams of two; these categories were judged separately. MKM architecture + design provided $4000 of prize money to be awarded to the selected projects.

A jury of 11 professionals recognized twenty-seven finalists (fourteen teams and thirteen individual projects).

The final stage (April 28th) jury consisted of:
Jonathan Hess, President of BDMD Architects, Indianapolis
Ron Menze, Principal at MKM architecture + design, Fort Wayne, IN
Tessa Pobanz, Designer for Universal Studios, Orlando, Florida

That jury selected the following awardees.
