MKM architecture + design has received two Building Contractors Association of Northeast Indiana (BCA) Awards for 2024.
Since 1993, MKM architecture + design (MKM) has facilitated a scholarship for the Ball State Estopinal College of Architecture and Planning (ECAP). An endowment was established specifically for these architecture students, funding an annual design competition for those in their third year. More than $4,000 in prize money is awarded to selected projects. The MKM Steel Competition was inspired by the ACSA National Steel Competition.
This year’s challenge was to design the “Fort Wayne Tin Cap Center,” a mixed-use development that aspires to further catalyze existing energies in Fort Wayne and clearly establish it as a regional model for positive development and growth. The center would house a food hub with local produce, rentable office space, a restaurant, event space, an auditorium, and health and wellness center. The designs must also include an exterior plaza space. Students are challenged to imagine the role architecture can and should play in the evolving Civic condition of Fort Wayne, and propose unique, appropriate, and dynamic architectural solutions.
Twenty-five students made the finalist short list and five of those students were recognized with an award, with the top award being The Menze Prize. This award was created in 2017 to honor Ronald Menze, one of the founding Principals of MKM and a recipient of the Alumni Award of Outstanding Achievement from Ball State ECAP.
